Oregon NORML | Special Events
Special Events
Oregon NORML is a vital part of many special events for the cannabis
community in the Portland metro area. Our events bring together supporters
of medical marijuana, industrial hemp, recreational cannabis, and personal
freedom and civil liberty. Our goals are to present solidarity among the
many pro-cannabis groups in Oregon, educate the general public about the marijuana issues,
and show the world that we are a large constituency that demands common
sense reform of marijuana laws.
The Million Marijuana March - Since 2000, Oregon
NORML has sponsored Portland's contribution to the worldwide
Million Marijuana March. Supporters gather at Pioneer Courthouse Square
in downtown Portland on the first Saturday
of May at 12 Noon.
Portland Hempstalk - Since 2005, Oregon NORML has
been a co-sponsor of Portland's outdoor cannabis / hemp festival, featuring
speakers, bands, vendors, and educational booths. The festival is scheduled
for the second Saturday & Sunday of September from 10 AM to 12 Midnight, and
is located at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland.
The Oregon Medical Cannabis
Awards™ - Since
2002, Oregon NORML presents the only medical marijuana evaluation
and education seminar in the United States. Caregivers submit entries
of medical cannabis strains and patients judge the strains for medical
efficacy and other factors. The event also includes vendors, music,
and the awards banquet, and is open to the public. The event is held
at the Ambridge Events Center at 300 NE Multnomah in Portland on the second Saturday in December from 9AM to 10PM.
Various other events are held as fundraisers and community-building
activities, including comedy shows, concerts, festival booths, movies,
and more. Watch the Oregon NORML Activist Calendar for details.
Oregon NORML | Regional Events
Regional Events
Oregon NORML is proud to represent our cannabis community at many events in the Pacific Northwest. We believe it is important to build community and work together to end adult marijuana prohibition. You can find us at these events and wherever there are people hungry for change:
Seattle Hempfest: The largest pro-marijuana rally in the world! Every year since 1991, Seattle, Washington, hosts anywhere from 100,000 to 200,000 people at the Myrtle Edwards Waterfront Park to listen to great bands and learn from activists about the prohibition of marijuana and how we can overturn it. It is always held on the third weekend of August.
Oregon Country Fair: The Fair is nestled in a the woods outside Eugene, Oregon in the town of Veneta. It is a tremendous gathering of people celebrating our freedom, our planet, and the vibe that binds us all together. Amazing artists and performers are everywhere and the food vendors sell some of the tastiest, most exotic eats in all Oregon. It is always held on the weekend after the 4th of July.
Emerald Empire Hempfest: The Hempfest is held in Eugene, Oregon, every year to bring the truth about hemp to the people of the Willamette Valley. Vendors of clothing, jewelry, food, and knick-knacks will be there, along with great music and merryment. It is always held on the weekend after the Oregon Country Fair.

Oregon NORML | Oregon Medical Marijuana Program Cardholders Meeting
Oregon Medical Marijuana Program Cardholders Meeting
Beginning in 2008 - Two Meetings Per Month!
2nd Saturdays = OMMP Cardholders Meetings (Clones and Medicine)
4th Saturdays = OMMP 101 (Learn the Program, Learn the Law)
We have returned to the Mt. Tabor Theater, at the corner of SE 49th & Hawthorne. The new owners have renamed it "Mt. Tabor Legacy" and are excited to see our meetings return. The theater has been remodeled and upgraded, making it possible for us to show informative cannabis growing and civil liberties DVDs with profession sound and lighting for the meeting. Our volunteers serve the community by helping patients and caregivers who are searching for a marijuana plant start (clone), our expert growers give advice to novice growers, and our boardmembers educate attendees about the latest political and legal issues that directly affect cardholders.
Learn the history of Oregon NORML's OMMP Cardholders Meetings and how the law protects us. Click here to see the slide show we presented at the 2007 NORML National Conference in Los Angeles, California
But the real success of the meeting is bringing together hundreds of patients, caregivers, growers, and activists in a safe and empowering environment, where we can learn from and help each other. Networking helps the community help itself without the greedy fingers of "entrepreneurs" making a buck off of patient's medical needs - NO BUYING OR SELLING OF MARIJUANA IS TOLERATED, violators will be expelled and memberships permanently revoked. We find that together we are a powerful force and Oregon NORML works to channel that energy into the eventual re-legalization of cannabis hemp.
As always, to attend our meeting you need to be:
an Oregon NORML member and
21 years of age or over and
a cardholder in the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program and
YOU MUST BRING PHOTO ID AND OMMP CARD (or paperwork stamped by DHS) TO ENTER - NO EXCEPTIONS!
Bring your Oregon NORML Membership Card. If you haven't received it yet (or lost it), you can pick it up at our check-in desk.
If you are not a member, you can join online (bring a printout of your PayPal receipt) or at the door for $35/year (cash or check only at the door / debit or credit only online).
Mt. Tabor Legacy Theater, 4811 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR
If you can possibly help others, bring plant starts, clones, and excess medicine to donate to the cause. In the meeting you'll get to meet other patients and caregivers, learn the latest in medical marijuana law and politics, and maybe even win a free door prize. We strive to help everyone, but the real success is that our members help each other.
Oregon NORML | State Legislative Workshops
State Legislative Workshops
Oregon NORML, in conjunction with the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program,
presents medical marijuana cardholder workshops at the State Office Building
in Portland. The workshops are designed to help cardholders understand
the medical marijuana law and to solicit feedback on the operation of
the program from cardholders and the general public. The workshops are
free and open to the general public. See our Activist Calendar for dates
and times.
Oregon NORML also provides reminders for the meetings of OMMP's Advisory Committee on Medical Marijuana (ACMM). The ACMM meets at least four times per month. The ACMM is an 11-member committee appointed by DHS Director Bruce Goldberg.
It is charged with advising the director on administrative aspects of the
Oregon Medical Marijuana Program, reviewing current and proposed
administrative rules of the program, and providing annual input on the
program's fee structure. Committee members are patients who possess registry
identification cards, designated primary caregivers and advocates of the
Oregon Medical Marijuana Act.
The Oregon Medical Marijuana Act was approved by voters in the Nov. 3, 1998,
general election. The ACMM was created during the 2005 Legislative Session.
The statutes governing the OMMP are ORS 475.300 to ORS 475.346.
State Office Building (DHS) - 800 NE Oregon St, Portland, OR 97232
Oregon NORML is committed to representing the voice of the cannabis community
in favor of legislation that removes the civil and criminal penalties
for the responsible adult use of marijuana and support for the politicians
who share our vision. We also alert the public to oppose legislation that
continues or exacerbates the cruel and tyrannical War on Marijuana and
we work to re-educate or remove politicians who are obstacles to common
sense marijuana regulation.
When necessary, we organize protest marches and letter-writing campaigns
to make these politicians take note of our political position as responsible
adult cannabis users. See our Legislative Alerts page
for more information on the current bills and issues we are working
on. Watch the Oregon NORML Activist Calendar for details.
