Oregon Medical Cannabis Awards 2007
David Verstoppen of Long Creek Wins Top Prize For
"Medicine Woman" - Third year in a Row!
The 290 mile trip from Long Creek has become the road to glory for a medical marijuana grower named David Verstoppen. He won top prize, as judged by 28 registered patients, for his strain "Dynamite" back in 2005 and for "Medicine Woman" last year.
This year, David once again takes home First Place Overall for his "Medicine Woman" strain - which he tells Oregon NORML he developed to help treat his wife's fibromyalgia. Judges scored the strain "excellent" at relieving pain and spasticity, a very well-groomed bud with a pleasant aroma, not too rough on the lungs, and great taste and potency.
The Hemp Fashion Show expanded this year to include other eco-friendly fashions, culminating in a show of hemp-based wedding dresses that were a huge hit with the audience.
Our vendors demonstrated the many uses of hemp, from clothing to quilts, from chocolates to replacement fuel for diesel engines.
Keith Stroup, the founder of our national parent organization, NORML, gave the keynote speech at this year's awards and participated in our Legal Panel, along with Alison Holcomb and Andrea Meyer of the ACLU of Washington and Oregon, respectively, and attorneys Brian Michaels, Ann Witte, and our own legal director, Paul Loney.
Full results, photos, and audio and video clips from the awards will be added to our OMCA page as soon as we can get them edited and uploaded. Check back here all this week for the latest updates.

The panels focused on the rights of medical marijuana patients, efforts by law enforcement and industry to re-criminalize patients, and the latest changes in the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act and Administrative Rules.
